The cyclopaedia of the British costumes from the Metropolitan repository of fashions.   Title:  The cyclopaedia of the British costumes from the Metropolitan repository of fashions. Publisher:  London : W. Hearn, 1823-1847. Description:  5 v., leaves of plates : ill. (some col.) ; 27 x 36 cm. Notes:  Description based on v. 5. Vols. 3-5 published in London by G. Walker. "T. Richardson, printer ... London" --Colophon. Text in double columns, continuously paged throughout the volume. Some plates signed: J. Cross sculpt.; drawn & engraved by Chas. Sibley. The illustrated plates include engraved scenes of men, women, and children in various styles of dress; each costume is numbered along the bottom of the plate. Includes some publisher's and commercial advertisements. Contents:  v. 1, 1823-1827 -- v. 3, 1833-1837 -- v. 4, 1838-1842 -- v. 5, 1843-1847. Local Note:  CHMRB has v. 5, nos. 1-2, 4-10 only, with 16 leaves of plates showing costumes numbered 64 through 171. The CHMRB copy of v. 5 is imperfect: the plates showing costumes numbered 92-100, 110-118, and 137-153 are wanting. Bookplate: Ex libris, Cornelia Otis Skinner. Bound in old brown half-leather over marbled boards; spine has been repaired with buckram.
