Summary:
"Voices From the Temple Mound by Preston Singletary and Marcus Amerman gives voice to an under documented history! Hand-blown glass objects reference an ancient art form ... Contemporary Native American glass hero, Preston Singletary fuses talents and interests with Choctaw artist, Marcus Amerman--more traditionally known for his beaded accoutrement--in a new show titled Voices From the Temple Mound. This exciting new show draws on historical Choctaw objects and archeological ceramics from the Arkansas area. The show will be on display at the Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe, NM from July Jul 07-17, 2010 with the artist reception on Friday July 9th, 5-8pm. Singletary and Amerman draw upon coveted, often secret, techniques for enhancing the natural state of glass in order to evoke a sense of age in the work. Other pieces are seen in hot contemporary colors, bringing the ancient ideas forcefully into the present. A desired tension exists in the work. The forms range from incised urn-like pieces with tubular layers adding vertical proportion to jars with human heads and what appears to be a form of scarification"--Blue Rain Gallery press release, June 3, 2010
