The title, provided by Bailey, appears in ms. pencil on the verso of the front free endpaper of the album.

Most of the images have captions supplied in ms. pencil or ink.

The hand-drawn, colored map has the title: Survey from Mussabe to N'Kula Maceilo including Luemme R. and country on north bank. Red lines show routes taken by Captn. H.P. Bailey Capt. 1st Oct. 1885.

Some of the drawings were later reproduced in Bailey's book, Travel and adventures in the Congo Free State and its big game shooting.

Collection of sketches, watercolors, and photographs by Henry P. Bailey (who wrote under the pseudonym Bula N'zau), depicting hunting scenes, landscapes, portraits, and ethnographic materials. The items in the album were created or collected by him during his travels in Central Africa.

SCNHRB copy 39088011251568 has laid in items: watercolored engraving of a monkey wearing a fez (possibly a caricature?), 6 x 10 cm., signed with an unidentified monogram; typed bookseller's description ([1] p.); and an unsigned watercolor of sailboats on water, 11 x 19 cm.

SCNHRB copy has a modern quarter-leather binding with dark brown embossed cloth-covered boards; blind-ruled spine; and marbled endpapers. A binder's ticket is mounted on the front paste-down endpaper: Axc. M. Martinet, 172 Rue de Rivoli.

SCNHRB copy of album has a handwritten note in pencil, appearing near the end of the volume: "The following drawings were loosely inserted between the front end-papers when I purchased this book in September 1984. Roger Mason[?], F.R.G.S."

SCNHRB copy has accession number B0072 in the Cullman Library inventory list of the Russell E. Train collection.
